Taylor Swift's "Red" logs huge first-week sales

Country superstar Taylor Swift moved 1.21 million copies of her brand-new album, "Red," its first week in stores, marking the biggest-selling album debut in 10 years.
Swift's fourth studio set surfaced last Monday (10/22) and sold more copies in its first week than any other album since Eminem's 2002 release, "The Eminem Show," which sold 1.322 million copies its first week out. The country-pop album has easily topped The Billboard 200 this week, making it Swift's third chart-topping release.
Swift, who announced plans for an extensive 2013 tour yesterday (10/30), is the only female artist to have two million-selling weeks since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991. Her 2010 release, "Speak Now," sold 1.047 million copies its first week in stores.
Swift spent last week on a massive media promotion behind the new release, including appearances on "Good Morning America" (10/22-23), "The Late Show With David Letterman" (10/23), "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" (10/25)" and "20/20" (10/26), among others. Along with traditional music retailers, "Red" was also sold in other locations, such as Starbuck's, Walgreens and Papa John's Pizza. The brand-new collection has already topped the iTunes Albums sales charts in 40 countries, according to a press release.
The multi-platinum songstress will begin the 2013 schedule March 13-14 in Omaha, NE, followed by another 44 cities spread across the continent. Tickets for the outing go on sale Nov. 16.
