Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong entered rehab for substance abuse treatment after delivering a long-winded rant and destroying a guitar at Friday's (9/21) iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas.

After starting their Friday night set 30 minutes late, the punk-rocker cut short a performance of 1994's "Basket Case" with the intention of performing a new track from the band's impending "Uno!" album. Once Armstrong noticed a display indicating just 60 seconds remaining, he set off on a expletive-filled rant before destroying his guitar and launching the mic into the audience.

Armstrong checked into an undisclosed rehab center Sunday (9/23), according to a statement released by the band's spokesman.

"We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas," the statement read. "We regretfully must postpone some of our upcoming promotional appearances."

Green Day has four promotional dates on their schedule this week: a performance at Los Angeles' KROQ (9/24), talk show appearances on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" (9/25) and "Ellen" (9/27), and an autograph signing at Tilly's in Burbank, CA (9/26).

Green Day will release the first studio set of the trilogy, "Green Day Uno!," Tuesday (9/25) via Reprise Records. The next two, "Green Day Dos!" and "Green Day Tre!," hit retailers Nov. 13 and Jan. 15 respectively.

The band's official tour in support of the trilogy gets underway in late November and extends through February. A one-off festival appearance Oct. 27 in at New Orleans' Voodoo Music Experience is also on the books. No word yet if any of these dates will be affected.
