SafetySuit goes indie, hits the road

This week, the Nashville pop band SafetySuit kicked off its new independent label Arena Complex Records with the release of "Hallelujah," an iTunes-only collection of tracks that appeared on "These Times" and its debut "Life Left to Go."
In support of this release, the band has scheduled a headlining tour set to begin Sept. 7 at the Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia and to conclude on Oct. 5 at Scout Bar in Houston.
The EP contains new versions of "Let Go (acoustic)" and "Never Stop (Wedding Version)" off of "These Times," "Anywhere But Here (Orchestral Version)" off of "Life Left To Go," and a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." The orchestral symphony on "Anywhere But Here" showcases the emotion behind the lyrics as "Never Stop" paints a picture of the perfect marriage.
"If you don't want to be vulnerable, you probably shouldn't be an artist," SafetySuit lead singer/guitarist Doug Brown opined during a February telephone interview with SoundSpike.
"People aren't going to their 10th, 15th, 20th Bruce Springsteen show because he keeps all of his vulnerable stuff inside," Brown said.
"He puts the good, the bad and the ugly out there. People connect with it and that's why they want to be around. There's bands out there today that are selling more singles than we are, or are on the radio more than we are -- for now. At the end of the day, people can think a song is catchy and want to listen to it, but if it lacks vulnerability and lacks substance, it'll be gone tomorrow.
Brown is hoping that his band's material will have that sticking power.
Besides Brown, SafetySuit is Dave Garofolo (guitar), Jeremy Henshaw (bass), and Tate Cunningham (drums).
