George Jones announces 2013 farewell tour
Though in the midst of a summer and fall outing, country legend George Jones has unveiled plans for what's being billed as the final trek of his career, aptly titled "The Grand Tour."
The Texas native, who is currently touring the eastern U.S., will visit approximately 60 markets on the 2013 farewell outing. Those dates will be revealed in the coming weeks. The musician also intends to release one more studio album, which will likely feature songs penned by Dolly Parton, according to a press release. No word yet on when that collection might hit retailers.
Jones has 26 major-market stops on his current itinerary, beginning with a show Friday evening (8/17) in Savannah, GA, and pushing through a Dec. 15 performance in Jackson, TN.
"The Grand Tour" will cap off more than 50 years of touring for Jones, who holds the title of second best-selling country artist of all time, according to a press release. The 80-year-old musician then plans to spend more time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
"It is tough to stop doing what I love, but the time has come," Jones succinctly stated in a press release.
In April, Jones cancelled a number of shows due to an upper respiratory infection.
