Monkees Michael Nesmith, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork set to tour
The surviving members of the legendary made-for-TV rock band The Monkees will reunite for a dozen shows in the U.S. this fall.
The tour, featuring Michael Nesmith, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork, kicks off Nov. 8 in Southern California, and runs through early December.
Nesmith hasn't played any shows with The Monkees since 1997, though Dolenz, Tork and the late Davy Jones toured as The Monkees without him.
According to a press release, the shows will feature a mix of the group's hits, "deep cuts" from the band's first five albums (some of which haven't been performed since the 1960s) and tracks from the soundtrack to their motion picture "Head." Rare films and "one-of-a-kind photographs" will also be featured during the shows.
Part of the concerts will be performed solely by Nesmith, Dolenz and Tork, but the trio will be augmented by other players when they open and close the show.
Plans call for late Monkees singer Davy Jones, who died in February, to be saluted during the show's multimedia content.
"Although Davy's absence will undoubtedly be felt by the Monkees and their fans, these concerts will be an opportunity to share their memories amidst the music and the movies that brought them together," said the tour announcement.
