ZZ Top prep for stateside "La Futura" trek

Iconic Texas rockers ZZ Top will return to the U.S. tour trail later this month in support of their long-awaited new album, "La Futura."
The trio of musicians -- singer/guitarist Billy Gibbons, bassist/singer Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Hill -- will kick off the latest leg of dates with an Aug. 14 show in Bakersfield, CA. The 16-city outing works its way across the continent, wrapping up with a trio of Midwest gigs with Lynyrd Skynyrd in mid-September.
ZZ Top, which has had the same lineup for 42 years, will unleash "La Futura" Sept. 11 via American Recordings. The album marks the group's first new collection in nine years; "Mescalero" surfaced in 2003 and peaked at No. 57 on The Billboard 200.
"We thought long and hard about what this album should be," Gibbons said of the new effort in a press release. "We wanted to recall the directness of our early stuff but not turn our backs on contemporary technology. The result of this melding of the past and the present is, of course, 'La Futura.'"
