Elvis Presley collection due for 40th anniversary of New York City performances
Elvis Presley fans will get a treat this fall when a double-disc set of two 1972 New York City performances hits retailers, along with previously-unreleased video footage from the events.
"Prince From Another Planet: 40th Anniversary Edition" will hit shelves Oct. 30 via RCA/Legacy. The two-disc collection includes two sold-out Madison Square Garden performances from June 10, 1972: a 23-song Saturday afternoon performance and the 20-song evening show the same night, which was originally released on LP just eight days after the concert.
The 40th-anniversary set has been newly remastered by engineer Michael Brauer and includes a 5,000-word essay written by Patti Smith guitarist Lenny Kaye, then the music editor of Cavalier magazine. A DVD is also part of the package, on which fans will find unseen footage recorded on a handheld camera by a fan at the Saturday afternoon show, as well as a 20-minute press conference that preceded the weekend performances.
The setlists for the two recorded performances contain an array of hits, including "Proud Mary," "Love Me Tender," "Blue Suede Shoes," "Heartbreak Hotel" and "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," among others.
