J. Geils Band readies for "Houseparty" outing

Boston rockers J. Geils Band will return to the U.S. tour trail later this summer for the "Houseparty Tour," though without the namesake guitarist John Geils.
The rock outfit, which was big in the '80s, will take on nine concerts along the East Coast, beginning Aug. 25 in Syracuse, NY, and running through a Sept. 22 performance in Hampton Beach, NH.
The original band, comprised singer Peter Wolf, keyboardist Seth Justman, bassist Danny Klein and harmonica player Magic Dick, will make the trek, along with guitarist Duke Levine and drummer Tom Arey. Uptown Horns and a variety of background vocalists will also help out on the run.
Geils and his solo label, Francesca Records, are in the midst of a legal dispute with the band over rights to the "J. Geils Band" name.
J. Geils Band hasn't released a new studio effort since 1984's "You Gettin' Even While I'm Gettin' Odd," which was the first and only set to feature a singer other than Peter Wolf, who left the band in 1983.
The group disbanded in 1985, but has reunited several times, including a co-headlining hometown show with Aerosmith and an appearance in "Grown Ups 2," featuring Adam Sandler.
