Calexico plots worldwide trek behind "Algiers"

Indie-rock veterans Calexico will launch a worldwide club and theater run this summer and fall in support of a brand-new studio set, "Algiers."
The Tucson, AZ-based outfit will first head to Europe for a month of dates before beginning the North American journey with an Oct. 10 performance in Boston. The domestic trek continues with several stops along the East Coast before heading west. In all, the U.S. itinerary consists of 14 cities, including the closing two-night stand in Phoenix, after which the group will return to Europe for another leg of shows.
Calexico, led by the core duo of Joey Burns and John Convertino, is slated to release "Algiers," the band's seventh studio effort, in early September via Anti Records. The band recorded the forthcoming album in New Orleans at The Living Room Studio, an old church structure owned by Chris George and Daniel Majorie.
"I've always loved New Orleans," Convertino explained via the Anti Records website. "I knew that just by being in that place, with all that history that is so rooted in music, things would be different. You can't help but pick up the vibe. The air itself moves you in a way that is very different from anywhere else."
"Algiers" will follow 2008's "Carried To Dust," which featured several guest musicians, including Iron & Wine, Doug McCombs of Tortoise and Pieta Brown.
Fans can listen to the impending album's first single, "Para," which is currently streaming at the band's website.
