Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez talk tour
"Jennifer's show -- I wouldn't, like, make comparisons to other artists -- is a little more synchronized, with more dancers, more concert changes," Iglesias said during a recent teleconference with Lopez.
"I'm a guy, so when it comes down to costume changes, I get a little more lazy. And I guess one, you could say it's more a rock show in a way, and the other one is more -- you know what, and again, we're not comparing ourselves to these -- the acts that I'm about to tell you are absolutely unbelievable -- but I guess one's more a Madonna show, the other one's more a U2 show."
Iglesias and Lopez kick of their North American tour with two shows at Montreal's Bell Centre on July 14 and July 15. It continues through Aug. 31.
Iglesias, who penned Lopez's latest single, "Dance Again," is pushing his 2011 album, "Euphoria," which boasts six No. 1 singles. Lopez, a judge on "American Idol," is enjoying success with her seventh studio collection "Love?"
"Jennifer and I have known each other for quite some years and we both spoke about it and we thought it was a good idea [to tour together]," Iglesias said.
"Obviously, then, you've got to talk to the promoters and then to the agents, and all of that. Really the ones that made the decision were Jennifer and myself because we are the ones that are gonna be on stage, and at the end of the day, it's our responsibility, and if it goes well, it's our responsibility, and if it goes bad wrong, it's our responsibility."
Package tours are nice, Lopez said, because the acts can share fans, and potentially earn new ones.
"When you have two artists come together, you do have that thing that happens, where, you'll have that person in the audience who doesn't really know your music, and they're only there to see Enrique or only there to see me, and then they'll be like, 'Oh, my God, I love them now.'"
Fans of both artists will enjoy hearing that the duo will share the stage at points during the performances.
"We're planning it," Iglesias said. "Her show is so different than my show, that that's what I think is going to be the whole combination, and that's what I think fans are gonna appreciate. I think it's unexpected, and you I've already seen what her show consists of, and I think fans are really gonna appreciate that. Definitely, we can combine that at one point, both of us together would be fun for the fans."
