Singer/guitarist Phil Alvin of The Blasters is hospitalized in Spain, and the band has been forced to cancel its June/July tour of Europe.

The reason for Alvin's hospitalization hasn't been disclosed, but he is apparently recovering well after a serious health issue.

"Long story short: After a rough couple of days, my brother Phil (truly one bad stud) is recovering slowly but steadily and is in excellent medical hands in Spain," bandmate Dave Alvin wrote yesterday on his Facebook wall. "Sincere thanks to all of you who have been sending him positive thoughts, vibes, prayers, non-prayers, best wishes, jokes, memories, etc. It means a lot to Phil, our family and me."

A new Blasters studio album titled "Fun on a Saturday Night" is due out on July 3.
