Green Day was hoping to play a free "secret" show in Burbank, CA, this Friday (6/22), but those plans have been scrapped because the band has been denied a permit.

According to the band's spokesperson, crowd-control concerns were the reason for the denial.

The show -- which hadn't been publicized -- was expected to attract crowds "well into the thousands, and after monitoring the situation, fears were the number would dramatically swell and pose serious concern for safety of concert-goers once the location was made public," according to a press release.

Green Day is planning to release three new albums in the coming months: "Uno!" (to be released on Sept. 25), "Dos!" (due on Nov. 13) and "Tre!" (due on Jan. 15, 2013). The upcoming albums follow "21st Century Breakdown," Green Day's eighth studio set, which was released in May of 2009.
