David Byrne, St. Vincent work together on "Love This Giant"

Former Talking Head David Byrne and singer/songwriter St. Vincent have joined forces for a late summer excursion behind their forthcoming collaborative album, "Love This Giant."
The month-long trek gets underway Sept. 15 in Minneapolis, MN, and works its way first to the East Coast and then westward. The 22-date North American outing includes three Canadian stops: Sept. 20 in Toronto, Sept. 21 in Montreal and closing performance Oct. 20 in Vancouver.
Ticket information will be announced soon via the album's website.
"Love This Giant," which hits retailers Sept. 11, has been several years in the making. The pair began swapping material back and forth in 2009 and have since turned the work into a 12-track effort.
"The writing was truly collaborative," Byrne explained at the project's website. "Sometimes Annie would send me some synthesized versions of brass or guitar riffs and I would arrange them a bit and write a tune and words over them; other times this process would be reversed and I would send some musical ideas to Annie for her to write over."
Early on, the duo decided to use a brass band rather than a rock ensemble, "which would brilliantly solve the sound problems inherent in performing in a small joint like Housing Works," Byrne said. "A brass band wouldn't need mixing and could be heard acoustically in a room that size."
The road trip will include eight brass band members, a keyboardist and a drummer, according to the tour's website.
