Aaron Neville preps doo-wop album for Blue Note, sets tour

Aaron Neville will celebrate joining Blue Note Records and the impending fall unveiling of a new doo-wop album with a summer excursion.
The iconic soul/R&B musician will take to the road later this month, beginning with a June 23 performance in Greensboro, NC. The 14-city trek spans nearly two months and wraps up Aug. 11 in Atlanta.
Neville announced in a press release that he has signed with Blue Note Records and will unveil a full-length doo-wop album, produced by Keith Richards and label president Don Was, later this year.
"When I was a kid, doo-wop was like medicine to me," Neville explained in a press release. "I didn't care what else was goin' on in the world as long as I could sing along with Pookie Hudson and The Spaniels, The Flamingos, The Clovers, Sonny Til and The Orioles, Clyde McPhatter -- I was like a kid in a candy store."
Neville called on well-known sessions players to perform on the covers album, with the lineup including guitarist Greg Leisz (Ryan Adams, Sheryl Crow), organist Benmont Tench (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), drummer George G. Receli (James Brown, Bob Dylan) and bassist Tony Scherr (Rufus Wainwright, Bill Frisell), as well as Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards.
The still-untitled effort will follow Neville's 2010 Christian release, "I Know I've Been Changed."
