The Flaming Lips will take a quick break from their summer run to attempt to snag Jay-Z's Guinness world record for the most live concerts in a 24-hour period.

The eclectic rockers will first complete five performances, beginning June 16 in Toronto and running through a June 24 show in St. Paul, MN, before taking on eight shows in 24 hours. The attempt, which coincides with the 24-hour, live-streaming O Music Awards, gets underway June 27 in Memphis, TN, and continues in Clarksdale, MS; Oxford, MS; Jackson, MS; Hattiesburg, MS; Baton Rouge, LA; and New Orleans. Each stop will feature a different opening act, with Gary Clark Jr., Givers and Grace Potter & The Nocturnals among those scheduled.

"I don't remember if I was asked or if I volunteered, but I've accepted the job of not driving but commandeering the Magical Mystery Merry Prankster bus," frontman Wayne Coyne told MTV News. "I've accepted the attempt at breaking the world record of performing eight shows in 24 hours.... I always liked the way Jerry Lewis would get all sweaty toward the end of his yearly telethon. To play and sing Flaming Lips songs at eight in the morning, well...I'm open to new experiences."

Tickets for the outing, including the record-breaking gigs, are available now. Part of the proceeds from the quick eight shows will benefit VH1's Save the Music Foundation.

The Flaming Lips will then resume touring in early July, when they head across the pond for a three-week European trek, stopping at summer festivals along the way.

The Flaming Lips most recently unveiled "The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends," a 13-track collaborative studio set released as a limited edition vinyl for Record Store Day (4/21). The effort, which follows their 2009 studio album, "Embryonic," will be released on disc June 26, the day before the record-breaking attempt.
