Gotye returns to North America, announces new releases
Gotye, still reveling in the success of his smash hit "Somebody That I Used To Know," has plotted his return to North America for another run behind last year's "Making Mirrors."
The Belgium-born, Australian-raised pop sensation lands on American soil Aug. 22, where he will perform at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. From there he will canvas North America with the help of Chairlift, Missy Higgins, Zammuto, Jonti, Givers, and "Somebody That I Used To Know" collaborato Kimbra.
Highlights of the tour include a stop at the Bumbershoot festival in Seattle and appearances at the iconic Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and the Austin City Limits in Texas on October 13, his last show before heading back across the pond to entertain Europe.
Along with the news of his impending tour, Gotye also announced the upcoming release of two "new" albums. First up on June 8 is the 10-track EP, which features remixes of the radio sensation "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Tiesto, Beastie Boy Ad Rock, 4FRNT, Gang Colours, M-Phazes and more. In July, Gotye will release his sophomore effort, 2006's "Like Drawing Blood," for the first time in the U.S. via Fairfax/Universal Republic Records. The album, initially released in Australia, garnered a cult-like following there that eventually earned it platinum status and the Australian version of a Grammy.
Tickets for the tour go on sale to the public on June 8. Fans who have "liked" Gotye on Facebook or signed up for his mailing list by midnight EST on June 4 will get advance access to purchase tickets for all shows. Go to Gotye's website to learn more.
"Somebody That I Used To Know" has held onto the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the last seven weeks, while "Making Mirrors" has already sold nearly two millions copies globally.
