D'Angelo stages comeback at Essence Music Festival
Grammy-Award winning R&B artist D'Angelo will make his first U.S. appearance in a decade this summer at the 18th annual Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, alongside Trey Songz, Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige.
D'Angelo will perform on the main stage during the festival's opening night, July 6, at the Louisiana Superdome. Other acts including Fantasia, Kevin Hart and Keyshia Cole will make appearances through the weekend. See the full lineup below.
Although D'Angelo has collaborated with other artists over the years, his last album came out in 2000. "Voodoo" went platinum and won two Grammy Awards, including best R&B album, and reached No. 1 status on The Billboard 200. His debut effort, 1995's "Brown Sugar," also went platinum. It has been rumored that he is currently working on a new album titled "James River."
The 37-year-old recently pled guilty to disorderly conduct after his March 2010 arrest for allegedly soliciting an undercover officer for a sex act, according to Billboard.
Single-day tickets for the 2012 Essence Music Festival are on sale now, and priced from $50 to $300 per person per night. Weekend packages are also available from $150 to $900 per person. Visit the festival's website for more information.
