The Chris Robinson Brotherhood perform "Big Moon Ritual" on the road
The Chris Robinson Brotherhood has announced a spring and summer tour in support of their forthcoming "Big Moon Ritual," due out June 5.
The outing gets underway May 3 in New Orleans and will make stops across the nation before wrapping Oct. 18 in Florida. Included on the itinerary, Robinson will play a handful of dates as part of the Weir, Robinson, Greene Acoustic Trio, a band that also includes Grateful Dead founder Bob Weir and Academy-Award winning musician/songwriter Jackie Greene. Headed by the longtime Black Crowes frontman, The Chris Robinson Brotherhood also features Neal Casal (guitar), Adam MacDougall (keyboards), George Sluppick (drums) and Mark "Muddy" Dutton (bass). The band has performed more than 118 shows since the Black Crowes announced its hiatus a little over a year ago.
"Big Moon Ritual" is the outfit's debut offering. Its release date coincides with the band's performance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" the same night.
In a recent press release, Robinson called the album's music "classic California space boogie."
"This music in unashamedly what we're into," he said. "It's not a psych band because you have a Prince Valiant haircut and wear Beatle boots. It's psych because that's where our heads are. We want to make music that blossoms. We want to make music that sounds cosmic."
The band will follow up "Big Moon Ritual" with "The Magic Door" in September. Music from each seven-song album will be included in concert setlists.
