Rush gets behind "Clockwork Angels" with fall outing
Canadian rock outfit Rush will spend the fall on the North American tour trail, drumming up support for the band's forthcoming 20th studio effort, "Clockwork Angels."
The trio -- guitarist Alex Lifeson, singer/bassist/keyboardist Geddy Lee and drummer Neil Peart -- will kick off the trek with a Sept. 7 show in Manchester, NH. So far, 33 dates have been confirmed in major markets across the continent, including a handful of Canadian performances. The outing currently pushes through a Dec. 2 concert in Houston.
Tickets for most dates will be available via Ticketmaster and Live Nation beginning April 27.
Rush will unveil "Clockwork Angels," the band's 20th studio album, June 12 via Roadrunner Records. The 12-track set comes several years after their 2007 release, "Snakes & Arrows," which peaked at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and at the top of the magazine's Top Rock Albums and Top Internet Albums charts.
The impending effort's third single, "Headlong Flight," hits airwaves today, and the video for the track is currently streaming at the award-winning group's website.
"'Headlong Flight' was one of those songs that was a joy to write and record from beginning to end," Lee said in a press release. "Alex [Lifeson] and I had blast jamming in my home studio one day before the second leg of the Time Machine Tour and I did not revisit that jam until a year later. Alex and I assembled the song to be an instrumental and its original title was 'Take that lampshade off yo head!' but once we saw the lyrics Neil had written for 'Headlong Flight,' I knew that the spirit of the lyrics matched the instrumental perfectly, and it was just a matter of making them fit and writing the melodies."
Rush has an extensive discography spanning five decades, with their earliest album, the simply-titled "Rush," surfacing in 1974. RIAA has certified that the iconic rockers for the third most consecutive gold/platinum studio albums by a rock band, topped only by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
