Carlos Santana mixes Vegas residency with "Shape Shifter" run
Carlos Santana will take a break from his brand-new Las Vegas residency to canvas the eastern portion of North America supporting his impending release, "Shape Shifter."
Following the first round of shows for his two-year residency at Las Vegas' House of Blues through early June, Santana will kick off the "Shape Shifter Tour" with a July 7 stop in Hinckley, MN, followed by an appearance July 9 at Chicago's Ravinia Festival.
The short, nine-city jaunt includes one Canadian performance, slated for July 14 in Toronto, before the excursion wraps up with two consecutive nights--Aug. 20-21--in Atlantic City, NJ. Santana will then return to Las Vegas to continue his regular HOB performances, though more "Shape Shifter" dates will be added in the coming weeks, according to a press release.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is set to unveil "Shape Shifter" May 15 via the musician's own label, Starfaith Records. The 13-track set features the Santana band, which is comprised of lead vocalists Andy Vargas and Tony Lindsay, as well as keyboardist Chester Thompson, drummer Dennis Chambers, bassist Benny Rietveld, keyboardist Salvador Santana, along with Raul Rekow on congas and Karl Perazzo on percussion.
The instrumental project is dedicated to Native Americans, according to a press release.
"I encourage any and all countries (that have not as yet done so) to acknowledge the first people of their land, and make this a collective global effort," the 10-time Grammy winner stated.
