Sigur Ros to spend some time stateside supporting "Valtari"
Icelandic outfit Sigur Ros will make a handful of North American stops this summer as the band drums up support ahead of the late-May release, "Valtari."
The atmospheric alt-rockers will touch down in eight North American cities, beginning July 30 in Philadelphia and working their way west through an Aug. 12 performance in Los Angeles. Two Canadian shows -- Aug. 1 in Toronto and Aug. 3 in Montreal -- are on the schedule, along with a two-day stop Aug. 4-5 at Chicago's Lollapalooza.
Following the stateside run, Sigur Ros will return to Europe for an eight-city leg that includes several festival appearances through mid-September.
Sigur Ros is set to release "Valtari," Icelandic for "Steamroller," May 28. The album, which was produced by the group alongside Alex Somers, will be the band's sixth studio set and the follow-up to 2008's "With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly."
"I really can't remember why we started this record," bassist Georg Holm said in a statement on band's website. "I no longer know what we were trying to do back then. I do know session after session went pear-shaped, we lost focus and almost gave up ... did give up for a while. But then something happened and form started to emerge, and now I can honestly say that it's the only Sigur Ros record I have listened to for pleasure in my own house after we've finished it."
