Green Day finishing work on three new albums

Now that they've conquered the rock opera genre, Green Day can go in just one direction: a trilogy.

The band is currently in the studio recording three albums, titled, respectively, "Uno!" (to be released on Sept. 25), "Dos!" (due on Nov. 13) and "Tre!" (due on Jan. 15, 2013), according to a statement issued by the band's publicist.

All three albums are being recorded in Green Day's studios in Oakland, CA, with longtime producer Rob Cavallo behind the knobs.

"We are at the most prolific and creative time in our lives," the band said in a joint statement. "This is the best music we've ever written, and the songs just keep coming. Instead of making one album, we are making a three album trilogy. Every song has the power and energy that represents Green Day on all emotional levels. We just can't help ourselves... We are going epic as fuck!"

The upcoming albums follow "21st Century Breakdown," Green Day's eighth studio set, which was released in May of 2009.
