Melissa Etheridge plans road trip, new album and musical in the works
Melissa Etheridge will tour through most of the spring and summer in continued support of 2010's "Fearless Love."
First up for the artist is a sold-out show April 29 at the Mystic Lake Casino in Minneapolis, followed by a string of performances in large venues across the country through June. Beginning in July, the Grammy winner will take her show overseas to New Zealand and Australia before returning to the states for a two-night stand in the Hawaiian Islands. The tour wraps July 24 in Maui.
In an interview with Billboard magazine, Etheridge said she is currently working on a new album in a Los Angeles studio with producers Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Norah Jones) and Steve Booker (Duffy, Stevie Nicks) that could possibly be released later this year. She is also preparing material for a rock musical with "Nurse Jackie" creator Linda Wallem. No date was given for the musical's debut.
Known and loved for her honest lyrics, raspy tone and down-to-earth persona, Etheridge gained superstar status after the release of 1993's "Yes I Am," the critically acclaimed album that exposed her sexual orientation and earned her the second Grammy of her career. The recording includes the singer/songwriter's most well-known hits "Come to My Window" and "I'm the Only One."
"Fearless Love," the artist's 10th studio album, peaked at No. 7 on The Billboard 200 chart, the highest ranking received by an Etheridge album since 1995's "Your Little Secret."
