John Mellencamp extends "No Better Than This" trek to Canada

John Mellencamp will spend some time canvassing the Canadian portion of North America this summer as he continues supporting 2010's "No Better Than This."
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will begin the road trip with a June 14 performance in Penticton, British Columbia, and move eastward across the massive country. The monthlong outing features 15 stops, including two-night stands in St. John's, Newfoundland (7/6-7/7), and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia (7/9-7/10).
Cowboy Junkies will provide opening support on the Canadian trek, tickets for which are available now at Mellencamp's website.
Mellencamp will take to the road with his longtime touring band, comprised of guitarists Michael Wanchic and Andy York, violinist Miriam Sturm, bassist John Gunnell, drummer Dane Clark and accordion player/keyboardist Troye Kinnett. _
The Indiana native released "No Better Than This" in August 2010. The T Bone Burnett-produced effort landed at No. 12 on Rolling Stone's list of best albums of 2010.
Later this week, Mellencamp will make his theater debut when his play, "Ghost Brothers of Darkland County," premieres Wednesday (4/4) at Atlanta's Alliance Theatre.
Inspired by an Indiana cabin Mellencamp purchased in the '90s, the play was co-created with famed writer Stephen King.
"What I always remember was he tuned my guitar while we talked," King said of his first meeting with Mellencamp in a recent New York Times interview. "He said, 'I have this idea for a story,' and the idea was a classic, about ghosts in a cabin. And what I really liked is that we could put ghosts and live people in a cabin, and they wouldn’t see each other. Visually, that turned my dials."
The play runs through May 13, and tickets are available at the theater's website.
