Paul Weller lines up New York engagement

Singer/songwriter Paul Weller will make his only scheduled North American appearances of the year with a pair of New York City shows this spring.
The former Jam and Style Council frontman and his band have booked May 18 and 19 appearances at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square. Tickets go on sale Friday (2/2) and can be purchased online through Ticketmaster or from the arena's box office.
Weller is touring in anticipation of "Sonik Kicks," his 11th studio album and the followup to 2010's Mercury Prize-nominated "Wake Up the Nation," which featured contributions from former Jam bassist Bruce Foxton.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of The Jam's influential debut album, "In the City." Weller and The Jam released five more albums before calling it quits in 1982; Weller then went on to form The Style Council, which traded in The Jam's signature punk spikiness for a more lounge-based and jazzy New Wave style. The band released five studio sets before disbanding in 1989.
Weller launched his solo career with a self-titled 1992 effort.
