In Pictures: Janelle Monae at President Obama's "Victory Fund" event in Chicago

A select group of Chicagoans filled the UIC Forum on Wednesday night (1/11) not only to hear songstress Janelle Monae, but also to show support for President Obama's "Victory Fund 2012."

In addition to a speech by the president, the hometown campaign fundraiser showcased a performance by Monae and an appearance by actor Hill Harper. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the event wasn't aimed specifically at well-heeled backers, with the relatively affordable cost of admission starting around $40 -- though the highest priced VIP tickets went for $1,000. Proceeds from the concert reportedly will go to both Obama for America and the Democratic National Committee.

SoundSpike photographer Lyle A. Waisman was among the guests permitted to take photos of Monae and President Barack Obama on Wednesday, and here are some highlights. -- View Larger Photos
