Eric Johnson gets "Up Close" with club run
Guitar virtuoso Eric Johnson will celebrate the New Year with the "Up Close Tour," a month-long club trek that will take him across the nation.
The Austin, TX native will kick off the winter excursion with a Jan. 3 performance in Foxboro, MA. The 19-date outing continues along the East Coast before heading westward, finishing up Jan. 29 in Phoenix.
On the trek, Johnson will backed up by musicians Chris Maresh and Wayne Salzmann.
Johnson released his most recent effort, "Up Close," in last December. The 15-track album marks the artist's sixth studio set and first since 2005's "Bloom." Special guests Sonny Landreth, Steve Miller, Jonny Lang and Jimmie Vaughan are also featured on the collection.
"I think the lyrics show progress," Johnson explained of the album in a recent interview with Vintage Guitar Magazine. "They're more personal, rather than from the third person. That's kind of why I called it 'Up Close.' It's kind of a generic, but says it simply. It's trying to show a little more of myself."
