George Strait, Dixie Chicks raise big bucks for Texas fire relief

A Monday night (10/17) benefit concert featuring George Strait, Dixie Chicks, Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, The Avett Brothers and Asleep at the Wheel and others raised more than $500,000 for victims of the recent wildfires that swept through the state.
The show took place at the Frank Erwin Center at the University of Texas at Austin, and a total of 11 acts were on the bill.
Proceeds from the event -- dubbed "Fire Relief: The Concert for Central Texas" -- will go to the Central Texas Wildfire Fund at the Austin Community Foundation, which will disperse funds to Central Texas community organizations. Donations can be made via this link.
Losses from the late-summer wildfires in Central Texas are expected to hit $250 million, according to local news reports. According to concert organizers, many of the short-term needs of people affected by the fires have been met; the concert's goal was to address the long-term fallout.
