X pairs up with Pearl Jam, maps winter run
Los Angeles punk-rock icons X will be on out on the road for the remainder of 2011, including a just-added West Coast junket in December.
The upcoming shows, which get underway Sept. 24 in Philadelphia, start off with a screening of "X: The Unheard Music," a 1986 rockumentary covering the rise of X filmed over the course of five years by director W. T. Morgan. After the screening, the veteran four-piece will take the stage to play their critically acclaimed first album, "Los Angeles," in its entirety, as well as other favorites. The fall roadwork covers the East Coast and Midwest, including slots at Riot Fest in Chicago, Riot Fest East in Philadelphia, and the Voodoo Experience in New Orleans. Due to the festival format, "X: The Unheard Music" will not be shown at these three performances.
In November, the band meets up with Pearl Jam to head off for what will be X's first-ever tour of South America, making three stops in Brazil and one each in Argentina, Chile, and Peru. The tour leg is rounded out by shows in Costa Rica and Mexico City.
The newly-added West Coast U.S. dates continue an annual holiday season tradition for the punk rock veterans, who have been hitting that circuit since re-uniting in the early 2000s with their original lineup of singer Exene Cervenka, singer/bassist John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom, and drummer D.J. Bonebrake.
