Beyonce drops self-titled "visual album" via iTunes without warning
Beyonce fans received a holiday surprise late Thursday (12/12) night when the superstar performer unexpectedly dropped an eponymous fifth studio album, complete with several videos.
The iTunes exclusive, which Beyonce is calling a "visual album," features 14 songs and 17 videos shot in locations across globe.
"I didn't want to release my music the way I've done it," Beyonce said in a press release. "I am bored with that. I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There's so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans. I felt like I didn't want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out."
Physical CD/DVD sets will be available via retailers for the holidays, according to a press release.
Beyonce is in the final days of the 2013 round of her "Mrs. Carter Show." Queen B will finish up on the East Coast with a Dec. 22 performance in Brooklyn, NY. A month-long European trek is slated for early 2014.
