Jay-Z garners tops the list of 2014 Grammy Award nominations
Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z earned nine nominations for the 56th annual Grammy Awards, with Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams each receiving nods in seven categories.
Nominations for several of the 82 categories were revealed Friday (12/6) during the primetime television's "The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! Countdown to Music's Biggest Night."
Sara Bareilles, Daft Punk, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Taylor Swift will go head to head for the Album of the Year Award, while James Blake, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Kacey Musgraves and Ed Sheeran vy for the Best New Artist title.
Robin Thicke earned three nominations, with "Blurred Lines" getting a chance in the Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album categories, as well as Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with T.I. and Pharrell for the single of the same name.
Currently-touring Kanye West is a nominee for two awards: Best Rap Album for his chart-topping "Yeezus" and Best Rap Song for "New Slaves."
The 56th annual Grammy Awards ceremony will take place Jan. 24 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
