Andrew Bird preps for intimate December shows with guest Tift Merritt
Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bird will follow up a week's worth of West Coast theater shows with the yearly installment of intimate performances known as "Gezelligheid."
The Chicago native will first complete a round of shows that kick off Nov. 14 in Davis, CA, and conclude five gigs later with a Nov. 21 performance in Santa Barbara, CA.
The latest round of dates will be Gezelligheid, which is Dutch for extra cozy, performances, beginning with a four-night stand Dec. 9-12 in Chicago. Other stops include two shows in San Francisco (12/16-12/17) and Los Angeles (12/19-12/20).
The shows will concentrate on mainly instrumental violin pieces accompanied by the Specimens horns, according to Bird's website. Tift Merritt will be a special guest at these December shows as well.
Bird most recently unveiled his seventh studio album, "Hands of Glory," which surfaced last October via Mom+Pop Records. The eight-track set came just seven months after "Break It Yourself," a 14-track collection that features a duet ("Lusitania") with Annie Clark of St. Vincent.
