Nate Ruess returned home to Arizona with his band fun. on Tuesday (9/10), offering up a love letter to the Grand Canyon State.

"I owe most of my life to this city," Ruess told the sold-out crowd at Phoenix's Comerica Theatre. "It's crazy. The band started in New Jersey and we thought, 'Where's this going to work? Well, we've always got Phoenix.'"

Ruess, who grew up in Glendale, AZ, on the west side of Phoenix, first found success with the band The Format. When that band ended its pop reign, Ruess, who has since moved to New York City, founded fun.

"I've played in Phoenix now for 16 years," Ruess said during the show. "This is the largest show I've ever been a part of in this state.201190"

He urged fans not to look for his parents, but the resemblance may give them away. He said they both look like him. Guitarist Jack Antonoff quickly corrected him, saying he looks like them. Ruess also wanted to acknowledge the presence of his best friend, Sam Means (formerly of The Format), and his wife, Anita.
