Sting to perform 10-date benefit for New York's Public Theater
Along with his in-progress "Back to Bass" tour of Europe, Sting has added a special 10-date New York City residency, which will raise money for The Public Theater and debut songs from his forthcoming new album.
The iconic musician will finish out July in Europe and take a nearly two-month-long break before beginning the extended stay in New York City. That period of shows begins Sept. 25 and finishes up Oct. 9. The performances will take place in the 260-seat Anspacher Theater and feature music in an intimate setting.
Sting will also give concertgoers an inside look into the creative process behind his impending new set, "The Last Ship," and the play of the same name which is set to premiere in 2014.
All proceeds from ticket sales, which are tax deductible, will go to The Public Theater. A limited number of free seats will also be distributed via lottery each day. More information about the free tickets is available at the venue's website.
"The Public Theater, a New York institution committed to supporting all of the city's distinct communities, was a natural fit to perform this material that is, at its core, about the importance of community," Sting stated in a press release.
