Joan Jett deemed honoree at 2013's Sunset Strip Festival
This year's Sunset Strip Festival, helmed by Linkin Park, will honor rocker Joan Jett for her contributions to the famed Los Angeles boulevard.
Jett will be given the Elmer Valentine Award on Aug. 1, the first day of the three-day festival, which will also be dubbed "Joan Jett Day" by the City of West Hollywood. Jett and the Blackhearts will perform a full show at a VIP event later that evening.
"I actually lived on the Strip, right across the street from the Whisky," Jett said in a press release. "The Sunset Strip is a piece of rock 'n' roll history. I never thought all of those insane times would turn into an award, but I'm very honored, and inspired to keep making music."
On Aug. 3, Linkin Park will close out the sixth annual Sunset Strip Music Festival, which will take over Sunset Boulevard from Doheny Drive to San Vicente Boulevard. The event will feature two stages, beer gardens, an autograph tent, food trucks and more.
