Carrie Underwood tapped for "Sunday Night Football" theme, tour continues
Country superstar Carrie Underwood, who is currently on her "Blown Away" tour, is the new voice of "Sunday Night Football."
The Season 4 "American Idol" winner and six-time Grammy winner will record "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night," the opening theme for NBC's hit primetime spot, Sunday Night Football. The first performance takes place Sept. 8 -- the first SNF broadcast of the 2013 season—when the Dallas Cowboys host the New York Giants.
"I am thrilled to be a part of NBC's Sunday Night Football and am so honored they asked me," Underwood said in a press release. "I have always loved football season, and it is so exciting to now become part of it every Sunday night!"
The singer continues the North American leg of her "Blown Away" trek Friday (5/10) in Rockford, IL, and follows it up with eight mostly Canadian stops. Four festival appearances round out the current itinerary.
Underwood unveiled her fourth studio set, "Blown Away," last May. The 14-track collection debuted at the top of The Billboard 200 and the magazine's Top Country Albums, making the songstress the second country artist in the chart's 47-year history to have her four albums debut at No. 1.
