Beck pencils in handful of summer performances behind "Song Reader" book
Beck will return to the tour trail this summer for a handful of acoustic performances, followed by a pair of East Coast full-band sets.
The alt-rock singer/songwriter will begin with a sold-out one-off gig May 19 in Santa Cruz, CA, before heading to San Francisco the following night (5/20) for a special event co-helmed by McSweeney's and Pop-Up Magazine.
Three acoustic sets follow, including a July 28 appearance at Newport Folk Festival, and the trek wraps with two full-band sets -- one slated for Aug. 2 in Boston and another Aug. 4 in Brooklyn, NY.
Beck's most recent studio effort, "Modern Guilt," surfaced in 2008 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album.
In December, Beck unveiled "Song Reader," a book of sheet music featuring 20 songs and more than 100 pages of art. The artist began working on the project in 2004 and chose to release the collection as an album rather than a book, according to a recent interview with the book's publisher, McSweeney's.
