Legends shut out of general Grammy categories, but get nods elsewhere

Simply put, the major Grammy nominations are all about the kids this year. No legends received nominations in the general categories, so album, record and song will not be used as 'lifetime achievement' awards to honor an overlooked musician. Still, many music vets did get their acknowledgment in several other categories.

Simply put, the major Grammy nominations are all about the kids this year. No legends received nominations in the general categories, so album, record and song will not be used as "lifetime achievement" awards to honor an overlooked musician. Still, many music vets did get their acknowledgment in several other categories.

Among the legends -- artists who have been recording for more than 25 years, say -- Jeff Beck led the way with five nominations, followed by Herbie Hancock and Neil Young with three each. Pianist Billy Childs, bluegrass stalwart Del McCoury, Los Lobos, jazz man Marcus Miller, Randy Newman, Ricky Skaggs, Robert Plant, Sly & Robbie, Sade, Stanley Clarke, T Bone Burnett and Willie "Big Eyes" Smith had two apiece.
