Radio stations ramp up for an all-star holiday concert season
Katy Perry, Smashing Pumpkins, Cake, My Chemical Romance and Train are among the acts that will be spreading holiday cheer at radio station concerts in December.
The annual onslaught of multi-artist shows begins Dec. 1 with Mike Posner, 3OH!3 and Sara Bareilles hanging their stockings in Rochester, NY, at the 98PXY Jingle Jam. With eight radio concerts booked, Bareilles is either the most festive performer going, or else fearful that station music directors will become grinches if she passes on their shows.
The heaviest hitter of all radio Christmas concerts is KROQ's two-day Almost Acoustic Christmas at L.A.'s Gibson Amphitheatre. The 10-band lineup on night one, Dec. 11, includes Bad Religion, Cake and Jimmy Eat World; among the nine bands on the the second night, Dec. 12, are Phoenix, Florence and the Machine and Vampire Weekend.
Maroon 5 will perform at four radio shows and then on Dec. 9 in Washington, DC, at the National Tree Lighting Ceremony in President's Park. B.B. King and Bareilles will also perform.
