Bad Company and Lynyrd Skynyrd will join forces this summer for a co-headlining trek celebrating their respective 40th anniversaries.

The two rock acts will team up for a 12-date run that gets underway June 20 in Auburn, WA, and hits amphitheaters and arenas across the nation. The joint outing concludes July 27 in Bethel, NY.

Kentucky hard-rockers Black Stone Cherry will open most shows, according to a press release.

"Every member of Skynyrd has been fans of Bad Company from the get go," Skynyrd singer Johnny Van Zant said in a press release. "Personally, Paul [Rodgers] is one of my favorite rock singers. We have a deep appreciation for Bad Company's music and look forward to being on the road with them and sharing the stage."

2013 marks the 40th anniversary of Bad Company's formation, as well as the 40th anniversary of Lynyrd Skynyrd's debut album, "(Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd)."

The current Skynyrd lineup features Van Zant, guitarist Gary Rossington, guitarist Rickey Medlocke, guitarist Mark "Sparky" Matejka, drummer Michael Cartellone, bassist Johnny Colt, keyboardist Peter Key and backing vocalists Dale Krantz Rossington-Honkettes and Carol Chase-Honkettes. Fans can expect classic hits, such as "Free Bird," as well as other favorites from their 60-album discography.

Rodgers leads the Bad Company supergroup, comprised of original members Mick Ralphs (guitar) and Simon Kirke (drums), along with Howard Leese (guitar) and Todd Ronning (bass). The outfit hasn't released a studio set since 1996's "Stories Told & Untold," though the live set "Live at Wembley" surfaced in 2011.
