Pretty Lights closes year with East Coast dates
Pretty Lights, the stage name for producer Derek Vincent Smith, has added a couple year-end gigs to his slate of shows, including the first electronic performances at Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, VA.
The Colorado-based electronic act will finish up his in-progress "Illumination Tour," which continues with appearances at Nashville's With Your Friends Festival Oct. 26-27, as well as club and theater shows spread across the eastern half of the nation.
Since last check, Pretty Lights has tacked two Hampton shows (12/28-12/29) with Bassnectar onto the bill, as well as two consecutive "intimate evening" performances at New York City's Roseland Ballroom.
Pretty Lights recently revealed "So Bright," the lead single off of the forthcoming effort, which will be released by the artist's own label, Pretty Lights Music.
"I made a huge switch in my production techniques, and a marked evolution in my sound, all while still staying true to the PL style that I've developed," Smith said of the latest single at his website. "It has zero samples in it, as everything was self composed and recorded with several different bands I assembled, as well as many vocalists and emcees I recorded with."
The 13-track 2009 release "Passing By Behind Your Eyes" is the most recent full-length studio set from Pretty Lights. A trio of EPs surfaced in 2010 -- "Making Up A Changing Mind," "Spilling Over Every Side" and "Glowing In The Darkest Night."
All of Pretty Lights' music is free to download at the musician's website. To date, more than 2.8 million albums have been downloaded, according to a press release.
