Counting Crows promote "Underwater Sunshine" with fall dates
Alt-rockers Counting Crows will take on a rash of U.S. markets this fall in continued support of their recently released covers album, "Underwater Sunshine."
The California outfit, helmed by singer/songwriter Adam Duritz, will begin the journey's next leg with an Oct. 23 gig in Port Chester, NY, and work its way across the nation, wrapping up a month later with a Nov. 24 performance in Los Angeles.
"Underwater Sunshine," the Counting Crows' sixth studio effort, surfaced in April via Cooking Vinyl Records. The album, the full title of which is "Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation)," peaked at No. 11 on The Billboard 200 and at No. 3 on the magazine's Top Alternative Albums chart.
"Underwater Sunshine" follows 2008's "Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings" and features 15 cover songs, including "Meet on the Ledge" (Fairport Convention), "Amie" (Pure Prairie League) and "The Ballad of El Goodo" (Big Star).
"We have to love playing the songs, and Adam [Duritz] has to have an emotional attachment to the song in order to sing it," guitarist Dan Vickrey explained in a recent interview with Soundspike. "That's just the way he is. But that's just a byproduct of it. The bottom line is the only reason we're playing these songs is because we love it, it makes sense and they fit right in."
