George Strait plans "Cowboy Rides Away" farewell tour
After more than three decades on the road, country legend George Strait will hang up his touring hat in 2014.
"It's been a hard decision for me to make, but as far as the touring goes, I've decided that I'm not going to tour anymore after these next two years," Strait said. "And don't think I'm retiring, because I'm not. I still am going to make records."
Strait also said this final tour doesn't mean the last time he'll take the stage; he plans on performing one-off special events in the future.
The award-winning musician will kick off the first leg of "The Cowboy Rides Away Tour" Jan. 18 in Lubbock, TX, and follow it up with another 20 major market arena shows. The initial round of dates wraps up June 1 in San Antonio, TX. More performances slated for 2014 are also on the horizon.
Onsales for select cities begin Oct. 12. Ticketing information is available at the country star's website.
Strait most recently unveiled "Here for a Good Time," his 39th studio album, in Sept. 2011. The effort, which was recorded at Shrimpboat Sound Studio in Key West, FL, peaked at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and at the top of the magazine's Country Albums chart.
The Grammy winner has sold more than 68 million albums since his 1981 studio debut, "Straight Country" and holds the record for most No. 1 hit singles in any genre with 59 singles.
