Eddie Van Halen undergoes digestive surgery, leads to Japanese cancellations

Following a summer of cancellations, Van Halen has closed the curtain on its 2012 world tour by canceling the final two Japanese shows originally slated for November due to health issues with Eddie Van Halen.
The rock veterans posted an announcement at their website, explaining that the road trip has been cancelled so the guitarist can recover from an emergency surgery to treat diverticulitis, a digestive disorder. The 57-year-old musician is expected to make a full recovery in four to six months.
Van Halen does plan to rescheduled the Japanese stops, according to the announcement, though no new dates have been arranged.
The band took to the North American tour trail from mid-February through late June, but a 32-date summer excursion that was to have kicked off July 7 and pushed through Sept. 25 was canceled in mid-May.
Van Halen worked the road with the same lineup it featured during its 2007/2008 tour: original frontman Roth, guitarist Eddie Van Halen and drummer Alex Van Halen, along with Eddie's son, Wolfgang Van Halen, on bass.
In February, the band released "A Different Kind of Truth," the first original Van Halen studio album with Roth on the mic since "1984," which surfaced that same year.
