Gov't Mule fills out late 2012 plans
Southern jam-rockers Gov't Mule have added some Southern shows and East Coast concerts to their fall run.
The four-piece band, featuring singer/guitarist Warren Haynes, drummer Matt Abs, bassist Jorgen Carlsson and keyboardist Danny Louis, takes the stage again Sept. 12 in Englewood, CO. Since last check, another 15 markets have been added to the itinerary through year's end, beginning with an Oct. 17 show in Athens, GA, and closing out with a two-night stand Dec. 30-31 in New York City.
Information about tickets for the performances is available via the group's website.
The first three performances of the new schedule (10/17-10/19) are all in Georgia and commemorate the band's 1996 shows there, which are featured in the forthcoming "Georgia Bootleg Box." That collection, which becomes available in mid-October, features music recorded and mixed by Doug Oade more than a decade ago.
"I was instantly taken with the visceral nature of the music along with the rawness of the way they it was captured," singer/guitarist Warren Haynes explained at the band's website. "The Mule was barely two years old at this time and what we hear here, along with many songs from our first CD, are the works in progress of many songs that would later wind up on 'Dose' and in some cases 'Life Before Insanity.' This was at a time in our career when our repertoire was small but constantly growing, not unlike our fan base."
The itinerary also includes Gov't Mule's Island Exodus IV, a five-day, four-night cruise to Jamaica during which Gov't Mule, Warren Haynes and Anders Osborne will perform. That adventure is slated for Jan. 16-20. More information about the cruise is available at the outfit's website.
Gov't Mule most recently unveiled "Mulennium," a live release which surfaced in 2010. "By A Thread," the band's ninth and most recent studio set, hit retailers in 2009 and was the first album to feature Carlsson, who stepped in in 2008 after the departure of Andy Hess.
