Jay-Z preps to celebrate new Brooklyn arena
Jay-Z will christen Brooklyn's brand-new Barclays Center later this year with a trio of concerts to mark its official opening.
The 10-time Grammy winner and Brooklyn-born hip-hop star will celebrate the new home of NBA's Brooklyn Nets -- formerly the New Jersey Nets -- with three consecutive nights of music, slated for Sept. 28-30. Tickets go on sale July 13.
The rapper owns a minority stake in the basketball team and had a hand in the new venue, inspiring The Vault, a VIP-style suite level featuring a champagne bar, concierge service and more.
"This is where I'm from; I'll always be Brooklyn, and opening this arena will mean more to me than anywhere else," he reportedly said at a news conference last fall.
Before opening the New York venue, Jay-Z will head to Philadelphia earlier that month for a two-night stand Sept. 1-2 at the Budweiser Made in America festival, which will also feature Pearl Jam, Skrillex, Passion Pit, Santigold and Miike Snow, among others. Jay-Z most recently released "Watch the Throne," a collaborative album with Kanye West. That effort, which surfaced last August, debuted at the top of The Billboard 200 and was nominated for Best Rap Album and Best Recording Package at the 54th annual Grammy Awards.
