Flamboyant singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright has announced a spring and summer road trip behind his seventh studio album, "Out of the Game," which surfaces May 1 on Decca Records.

The 22-city North American trek, which marks the artist's first time traveling with a band since 2008, opens May 9 at the Brooklyn, NY Academy of Music, and proceeds to California and parts of Canada before returning to the states until the tour wraps Aug/ 11 in Minnesota.

On June 15 in Toronto, Wainwright will pay tribute to his mother, singer/songwriter Kate McGarrigle, who passed away in 2010 of cancer, alongside his sister Anna McGarrigle and a dozen others including Emmylou Harris, Bruce Cockburn and Peggy Seeger.

Teddy Thompson, Ingrid Michaelson, Josh Ritter and Krystle Warren will provide support in select cities on Wainwright's itinerary from May through July. Adam Cohen, the son of Leonard Cohen and uncle to Wainwright's 1-year-old daughter, Viva Katherine Wainwright Cohen, will offer support throughout August. See below for the complete list.

Produced by Mark Ronson, who is known for his work with Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen and Adele, "Out of the Game" is a departure from Wainwright's last project, his opera, "Prima Donna," that debuted in America last February. The new album incorporates the sounds of the pop genre, and was influenced by '70s songs from artists Elton John, Harry Nilsson and Steely Dan, according to a post on his website.

The video for the album's title track, which features Helena Bonham Carter, is embedded below.

Pre-sale tickets for the tour surface today (4/25), and tickets for the general public become available this Friday (4/27).
