Gorillaz plot worldwide "Escape to Plastic Beach"
Musicians behind the animated British alt-rock outfit Gorillaz will promote their recently released third album, "Plastic Beach," with a world tour that hits four continents before year's end.
The band, which headlined the final night of this year's Coachella Festival in April, will first perform a one-off concert July 25 in Damascus, Syria. The "Escape to Plastic Beach" tour will officially get started with an Oct. 3 gig in Montreal, followed by the group's first performance at New York City's Madison Square Garden Oct. 8. More North American shows will be announced soon, according to a press release.
Members of the band's fan club, Sub Division, will have access to pre-sale tickets at the Gorillaz's website when they become available in the coming weeks.
The current schedule, which is shown at right, also includes a 10-date swing through Europe and a six-city Australian leg.
Gorillaz -- the musical project of Blur's Damon Albarn and British cartoonist Jamie Hewlett -- unveiled "Plastic Beach," the group's third studio effort, in March. The 16-track set, which debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200, follows 2005's "Demon Days" and the band's 2001 self-titled debut.
