Jason Mraz plans worldwide acoustic shows
Jason Mraz will spend some time on the international tour trail later this year playing mostly acoustic shows in celebration of the 10-year anniversary of "Live at Lava Joe's."
The Grammy-winning singer/songwriter will kick off the sporadic schedule with an Aug. 7 stop in Mountain View, CA, followed a week later by an appearance at Farm Aid in Kansas City, KS. Five European dates are slated for September and a trio of two-night stands in Sydney, Australia (11/19-11/20), New York City (11/23, 11/25) and San Diego (11/28-11/29) round out the itinerary.
Tickets for most of the U.S. dates go on sale this weekend at Mraz's website.
Mraz will perform alongside longtime friend and percussionist Noel "Toca" Rivera for the majority of dates, though a couple (noted at right) will feature the musician's Super Band.
"I dig the groove Toca lays down with his drum," Mraz explained in a press release. "And the delicate touch he finds on the harmonies. He's like every member of the Dave Matthews Band and Boyz II Men rolled up in one prize wind-up teddy bear designed to beat a drum."
Mraz and Toca unveiled "Live at Lava Joe's," a 15-track live compilation, in 2001. The performer's most recent studio set, "We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.," hit shelves in 2008 and peaked at No. 3 on The Billboard 200. The album's lead single, "I'm Yours," won the ASCAP's 2010 "Song of the Year" award.
