With the addition of 16 new North American dates, Taylor Swift's "Speak Now World Tour 2011" is now scheduled to play 97 stadium and arena shows around the world.

Among the additions to the itinerary are a two-night stand at New York's Madison Square Garden, and shows in four Texas cities --including a new stadium gig at Houston's Minute Maid Park. The majority of the new shows are in the South.

Swift's North American schedule -- which kicks off in late May -- now consists of 78 headlining shows in 63 North American cities. Her world tour opened in Singapore this February, and currently is visiting the U.K. and Ireland.

During the shows, Swift "performs on two different stages -- playing several different acoustic and electric guitars and also the piano and the ukulele," according to a press release.

David Nail, who will release his sophomore album this fall on MCA Nashville, has been tapped to open the tour's newly added October shows. Australian country star Adam Brand will open on Sept. 24 and on all of the November dates.

Tickets for nearly all of Swift's previously announced dates have gone on sale, and the majority have sold out. Onsale information for new shows hasn't been announced.

The tour supports Swift's latest album, "Speak Now," which was released late last year and sold more than 1 million copies during its first week out.

Swift spent a good chunk of 2009 and 2010 on the road as well, when her 107-date "The Fearless Tour" sold out arenas and stadiums in 88 cities in five countries over 15 months.
